About Midway Baptist Church

Midway Baptist Church is a mission‑driven and strongly fellowship‑centered congregation with more than 135 years of ministry in the Gretna community. Founded in 1887, the church has grown from humble beginnings into a vibrant, multigenerational body marked by warm relationships, predominately traditional worship, and a deep commitment to sharing the Gospel. We average 140 in worship and maintain active ministries for children, youth, and adults. Midway is affiliated with the Staunton River Baptist Association, the Baptist General Association of Virginia, and the Southern Baptist Convention.

Position Summary

Midway Baptist Church is seeking a full‑time Pastor who will provide strong biblical preaching, relational shepherding, and spiritual leadership. The ideal candidate will faithfully preach Scripture, love people well, and guide the church in discipleship, outreach, and mission.

Key Responsibilities

1. Biblical Preaching & Teaching

  • Preach expository biblical sermons grounded in sound doctrine

  • Provide clear teaching of God’s Word

  • Lead Sunday morning worship services and Wednesday night Bible study

2. Shepherding & Pastoral Care

  • Build meaningful relationships across all ages

  • Be present and engaged in church life, modeling relational leadership

  • Visit and care for members, including the sick, elderly, and homebound

  • Strengthen the church’s culture of fellowship and community

3. Discipleship & Spiritual Development

  • Encourage spiritual growth through teaching, mentoring, and discipleship

  • Support and strengthen Sunday School, small groups, and midweek ministries

  • Equip members to grow in their walk with Christ and use their spiritual gifts

4. Evangelism & Community Outreach

  • Lead the church in developing relationships with the lost and unchurched

  • Support and participate in major outreach events

  • Encourage a culture of evangelism and community engagement

5. Leadership & Administration

  • Provide spiritual leadership to Deacons, volunteers, and ministry teams

  • Collaborate with committees, Deacons, and church officers

  • Provide oversight as needed to ensure healthy church operations

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biblical Studies or Divinity

  • 6–10 years of ministry experience

  • Demonstrated experience in preaching, shepherding, and relational ministry

Compensation Information

Midway Baptist Church provides a comprehensive and competitive compensation package for the Pastor. Specific monetary amounts will be discussed directly with candidates and are not listed in this description.

Salary

A competitive salary appropriate to the candidate’s experience, education, pastoral responsibilities, and ministry context.
